The rupee did not move sharply in terms of the dollar on the money market on Monday in the process of trading activity, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee showed slight changes in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.23 and Rs 138.26 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee stayed against the dollar for buying at Rs 138.00, while the national currency gained 10 paisas for selling and Rs 138.40, they said. The rupee picked up same amount in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.40 and Rs 158.90 respectively, they said.

In the first Asian trade, with much of Asia closed by holidays this week, the dollar also took heart from recently concluded trade talks between China and the United States it was set for its biggest two-day gain against the yuan in a year.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee depreciated its worth against the major foreign currencies including the American dollar and the British pound in the local currency market on Monday.

According to currency dealers, the short supply phenomenon of the greenback prevailed throughout the trading session which helped its appreciation for buying and selling at Rs 137.10 and Rs 138.45 against the previous closing trend of Rs 137.10 and Rs 138.45 respectively.

Similarly, the local currency also followed the same suit versus the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates rose from Saturday's closing of Rs 179.10 and Rs 180.50 to Rs 179.50 and Rs 180.80 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee recovered five paisas against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.

The dollar opened at Rs 138.20 (buying) and Rs 138.30 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138.25 (buying) and Rs 138.35 (selling). It closed at Rs 138.20 (buying) and Rs 138.30(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs Rs. 67,300 (selling) and Rs 67,000 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
